The primary function of the MHS Band during the late summer and fall is Marching Band. The marching band's primary focus is the preparation and performance of our competitive marching show. Our music selection is coordinated with the phenomenal visual design talents of Mr. Randall Standridge to form an overall entertaining performance. The band also promotes school spirit by supporting various school and community events.

Wind ensemble
When "marching season" comes to a close, the bands shifts its focus to Concert Season. The MHS Wind Ensemble, established January 2017, is an audition only group, consisting of instrumentation with that consistent of a traditional wind ensemble. The Wind Ensemble devotes focus to developing the individual at a very high level by performing more advancing wind band literature Students in the MHS Wind Ensemble are expected to audition for the All-Region and All-State Bands, as well as compete at Region and State Solo and Ensemble.

Concert Band

The MHS Concert Band rehearses and performs in formal setting, which students develop their individual musicianship skill within an ensemble by performing appropriate level wind band literature. Students also have the opportunity to audition for the All-Region and All-State Bands, as well as compete at Region and State Solo and Ensemble.

Jazz Band
The MHS Jazz Band is a separate class from the MHS Marching/Concert Bands. Students in the MHS Band play a variety of music, selected from different styles of music and different cultures. Students in Jazz Band learn to improvise within a song using the given chords as a guide. Students in the MHS Jazz Band perform at local holiday and spring concerts, as well as for community events. They also have the opportunity to audition of the All Region and All State Jazz Bands.

Color Guard and Majorettes
The MHS Color Guard is an audition group of MHS Band members who spin flags (and other equipment as ability allows) to add a strong visual element to our marching contest show. The MHS Majorettes operate in the same function as Color Guard but use a baton as their equipment. All Students in the MHS Color Guard or Majorettes will attend a summer camp with the entire guard to refine proper equipment technique, improve teamwork, and bond with their fellow members. Color Guard and Majorettes also have additional required practices outside of regularly scheduled band practices. Guard and Majorettes are active for "marching season" only.
